Daily profit/loss vs overall profit/loss
Why day change, current profit/loss, completed profit/loss, and total return can show different numbers.
Common symptoms
- Daily profit/loss is different from total profit/loss.
- A stock is green today but overall profit/loss is negative, or the opposite.
- Values change after market close or after a refresh.
What to try first
- 1Daily profit/loss compares current value against the previous close.
- 2Current profit/loss compares current value against your remaining cost for open holdings.
- 3Completed profit/loss comes from closed sell entries, redemptions, or exits.
- 4Dividends and distributions can be shown separately from current gains/losses, depending on the screen.
- 5After market close, values may settle differently from live prices. Refresh again later if the market just closed.
When opening a ticket
- Send screenshots of the screen, the affected symbol or fund, app version, and whether the market was open or closed when you checked.
- Attach an Excel export if the difference appears related to transaction history or remaining cost.
